WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Rep. Bob Ney (OH-18) today was proud to lead a discussion with his colleagues from both parties as well as leaders from numerous charities about ways non-profits can better help past, present and future victims of disasters. The first forum of the Bipartisan Working Group on Disaster Recovery was a success and it helped Members and staff from both political parties to learn how Congress can better help these organizations improve their disaster recovery and response capabilities.

Event attendees heard presentations from leaders of the United Way of America, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities USA. Congressman Ney hosted the forum long with his caucus co-Chair, U.S. Rep. William Clay (MO-01).

"In October I held numerous emergency management summit meetings in my district to hear state and local input on FEMA's response to the Gulf Coast disasters and what they thought could have been done better," Rep. Ney said. "Today's forum allowed me to share the helpful feedback I received at those summits in Ohio with my colleagues in Washington D.C. and leaders of the organizations that play a very important role in disaster recovery efforts."

"Congress must do everything it can to make sure organizations like the United Way of America and the Red Cross have all that they need to help victims of disasters like Hurricane Katrina and future disasters as well. That is why Rep. Clay and I created the Bipartisan Working Group on Disaster Recovery and Response. Today's forum was one of several that we intend to hold for Members of Congress to come together in an unparalleled way and help make life better for victims of disasters," Ney concluded.

The Bipartisan Working Group on Disaster Recovery and Response is a congressional caucus made up of both Republican and Democratic Members of Congress with a commitment to addressing challenges involved in helping America cope with a wide variety of disasters. Rep. Bob Ney and Rep. William Clay founded the Caucus shortly after Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on the Gulf Coast.
